From a first generation American

This is my personal experience and my opinion, so it might not resonate with everyone. But I’m so thankful for this country. Thankful for America. The land where people can pursue their dreams and actually build something. Build actual legacy. My family is from Russia and Ukraine. Beautiful countries but riddled (especially in the past) with government control, religious persecution, and a leash on small business and land ownership. My great grandfather lost his land and property when the communists took over in Ukraine. My family was bullied by the government and educational system for their Christian beliefs. But this this isn’t the point of my post. I’ve just seen how comfortable my generation (myself included) has been in this land. It’s a blessing actually. But it’s also wise to remember that freedom isn’t free. It’s costly. It required sacrifice. It required laying down your life for the life of future generations. It required standing up in the face of tyranny and fighting for something. This is something we see in movies and history books. But will there come a point in our timeline when we must have our own fight for freedom? Our own fight to “keep” our freedom? How can we be prepared for such a thing? I guess it begins in our hearts and minds. Always remembering the sacrifices of past generations. Always having a heart of gratitude.

Happy Birthday America.

May future generations have a solidified foundation to stand on in this nation.

May future generations carry the legacy of the freedom to pursue happiness.
